Health, safety and environment (HSE)

HSE work at Norway Post is the responsibility of both line and higher management. A systematic approach to HES will ensure:

  • an attractive workplace and good working environment at Norway Post
  • sustainable development through environmentally conscious management
  • satisfactory protection of customers’ and our own property against criminal activity.

Vision
The vision that Norway Post Group has for HSE is that:

“We will be in the front line when it comes to emphasizing HSE in all organisational and business development"

This means that our attention within HSE will focus on building the company’s core values of integrity, respect, creativity and cooperation. As part of this we have initiated a concept known as Be Safe, where together we seek preventative actions to reduce the number of workplace accidents and injuries in all our processes. Such an undertaking requires a great deal of cooperation to provide a solid foundation for all procedures and in good cooperation between safety services and employee representatives.

HSE administration
Systematic HSE work is addressed through active HSE administration. Important elements in Norway Post’s HSE administration are documentation, in the form of rules and regulations – our own HSE policies and quality assurance systems. This requires safety and competence, which is provided through relevant annual training for all managers and systematic work to strengthen the overall excellence of managers in the Group. In addition, Norway Post’s key performance indicators constitute an important part of this systematic HSE work. Norway Post monitors and follows up instances of sick leave, new incidences of disability and H-values. Every autumn the Group CEO’s HSE prize is awarded as part of the motivational campaign for HSE awareness. Candidates are selected from monthly award winners within the group. In this way we promote and share good practices for the advancement of ideas and training. We continually strive to improve our HSE-work in order to offer our employees attractive workplaces and a good working environment.

Four areas
The definition of the HSE concept at Norway Post can be divided into four areas.

  • Psychosocial working environments Interpersonal relationships and the organisation of work are at the heart of all psychosocial working environments.
  • Physical working environments Issues relating to the physical working environment are principally concerned with ergonomic planning of the workspace, indoor climate and noise levels.
  • Accident prevention HSE also includes working to prevent accidents and the health risks associated with the handling of chemicals and workplace accidents.
  • The wider environment Norway Post’s influence also extends to the wider environment. More information on this can be found in a separate section covering Norway Post’s impact on the wider environment.

Workplace accidents and injury
Workplace accidents and injuries at Norway Post are in large part concentrated in the Distribution network and Postal divisions. That is, the divisions which deal with physical work processes at Norway Post and where the risk of injury is therefore greatest. The greatest risks of personal injury at Norway Post arise from falls and working with containers.

As is the case for workplace injuries, sick leave is also highest where the physical movement of post occurs. It is in preventative action, Inclusive Working Life and the 'Post Model', an electronic reporting system and ’action bank’ for following up sick leave, which are Norway Post’s most important tools for reducing the long-term sick leave and the incidence of accidents.

Safety
Norway Post works continually to protect customers and our own property against criminal activity. The Group also has its own ethical guidelines, which – together with the implementation of our own warning system – will ensure that good practices continue.
