The Distribution Network division develops and runs Norway Post’s physical network. This includes the collection, sorting and delivering of letters and packages. With nearly 15 000 employees, the Distribution Network is the largest entity within Norway Post.
The distribution apparatus is unique in Norway and handles delivery for both private households and companies throughout the country. Through the Distribution Network, Norway Post represents one of the country’s largest transporters, with significant environmental responsibility. Every day Norway Post’s vehicles drive the equivalent of circumnavigating the world seven times and consume 4.5 million litres of petrol and 14.5 million litres of diesel every year. Norway Post’s own airfreight fleet consists of nine planes which ship between 60 to 80 tonnes of post, on more than twenty flights, every day.
The Distribution Network operates 12 major terminals for sorting letters. More than half of this process is automated. With transition to new, countrywide logistics for goods shipment, Norway Post aims to machine-sort 68 percent of all post by the end of 2008, and 80 percent by 2011.
The Distribution Network provides its services for internal partners of Norway Post and has no external income.
